'The Oscars' - Trophy Presentation Evening

Tonight, saw the much awaited ‘Oscars’ Presentation evening.

34 members and guests gathered at the Parish Hall with the evening broadcast out

to 9 members to celebrate those members who had images held back in various

genres, with the question who was going to be awarded the trophy!

All members were greeted with a glass or wine and nibbles or an alternative, the

atmosphere was one of excitement and trepidation!

Sadly, this year there were no Beginners or entry level entries by members, so we

started with the projected images in the Intermediate and Experienced sections. The

images were projected which were held back and then the trophy winner for each category was announced, in most cases to surprise from members!

After a break we then went on to the prints in the Intermediate and Experienced

sections, again the images were projected which had been held back and then the

trophy winners were announced again with surprise from members.

Certificates were awarded to members who although did not receive the trophy came

away with either a commended or highly commended in the various categories.

A very enjoyable evening was had by all.

Our exhibition of the prints will be on show in the Unit 16, in the Piazza in the town

centre from July 9th .

Talk - Matteo Leonetti – Preparing your image for Printing 25/05/22

Tonight, we had one of our members, Matteo giving a talk ‘Preparing your image for

Printing.

Matteo who now lives in Grantham, travelled especially to meet with us face to face

in the Parish Hall, which was much appreciated by all the members.

It was evident that printing is one of Matteo’s passions and has researched the

subject in depth. Matteo provided both a technical and a visual presentation, of how

your printer works in colour spaces, why it is important to calibrate your screen and

to work with paper profiles which suit your images best.

Matteo explained that to get to where he is satisfied with his printing has taken many

hours, trial and error in to perfecting what works well for him and has taken on board

the comments of judges regarding printing and use of papers for certain images.

It was lovely to see Matteo and that he is now moving to London later in the year, so

we still hope to see him on the occasional zoom meeting.

Speaker - Peter Bartlett – ‘The Way We Were’ 18/05/22

Tonight, we were visited via zoom by Peter Bartlett ARPS, EFIAP/b, CPAGB, BPE3*,

to give us his talk on ‘The way we were’.

Peter is a documentary photographer who shared his long-term interest in street

photography in which Peter documents as he states both everyday life, the banal,

mundane and the ordinary urban landscapes of Northern England and beyond.

Peter shared with us his past projects, especially the images that he took round

Manchester Northern Quarter which made up his ARPS panel and he invites the

viewer make up their minds about each image and what the story might be. Mostly

Peter’s images were in monochrome and from a variety of locations from

Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield to London and Milan.

Peter gave us a variety of hints and tips which were thought provoking and

encouraging you to take time and look at the environment around you.

He showed us that Street Photography does not need to be full body or head shots,

can images that are close up or just part of a hand, or feet.

A very inspiring and interesting evening giving members some inspiration to go out

and try to take images themselves.
