Nature Special Interest Group

The group was formed as part of a wider collaboration within the club to provide members the opportunity to share similar interests with like-minded people. The aim is to help members improve various aspects of nature photography, such as techniques, finding locations and post processing.  We have now been running for nearly 7 years, and has gone from strength to strength, with standards raising year on year.

The group meets on the second Thursday of each month using Zoom to discuss various topics relating to nature photography.

This includes a wide range of subjects such as.

  • Macro.
  • Flora and fauna.
  • Mammals.
  • Animals in their environment.
  • Black and white studies.
  • Birds (static and in flight)

We also have challenges where the aim is to attempt something new and perhaps a little different to what we are comfortable with.

The golden rule is that this should be done in a relaxed non-judgmental environment as the main aim is that photography should be about enjoying learning new skills. Everyone has knowledge and skill to share, and involvement in the meetings is actively encouraged.  In support of all this, there is a WhatsApp group where we share images, locations and arrange outings/ meetings and this has proved to be a vital tool over the years.

The group is a strong vibrant community that welcomes everyone regardless of ability, we have had several new members who were complete novices when they joined that are now producing some amazing photographs
