News

The latest news from our recent club evenings and events or any other items of interest.

Tonight, saw the third of our judging evenings where we welcomed via zoom, David Gibbins ARPS, APAGB, EFIAP/b,BPE5*, a highly well-respected PAGB judge from North and East Midlands Photographic Federation.

We gave David four genres to comment on all DPI images from our experienced members who had entered in Open Colour, Open Mono, Portrait and Scapes.

David was a clearly excellent communicator, enthusiastic in his love of photography, giving advice on each image as they were presented to him.

David commented on each image and awarded scores accordingly, images that were ‘held back’ on the night, we will have to see on our ‘Oscars night’ on June 29th who has come away with either the trophy, highly commended or commended certificates.

Judging of our Annual Competition entries is in full swing. This week we were pleased to welcome YPU-listed judge Haydn Bartlett who gave his critique and scores on over 70 prints submitted in 4 categories: Nature, Open Monochrome, ‘Scapes and Creative.

Each print was put on the lightbox for viewing and to aid those sat at the back a digital version of the print was displayed on the screen. In addition two of our technically-minded members relayed the digital versions and commentary to members who were watching on Zoom.

Following our custom in recent years Haydn held back the scores for the best work in each category thus helping to maintain the tension until our ‘Oscars’ evening in late June.

Out with old in with the new! Last Wednesday saw the election of a new president of the club: Carla Lloyd. Tony Renshaw retired at the end of his two year stint expressing his thanks to the committee for their hard work and support during that period.

The committee welcomed a new member Brian Eastwood, elected as Vice President. Other committee members were re-elected to their previous roles.

When asked how she saw the future of the club over the next two years Carla said in her welcome, that her aim was to build a club that continues to attract new blood to ensure our continued growth. She reminded members that they ARE the club and that the committee exist to be their voice. She encouraged to them to always tell her or the committee about any ideas, improvements, feedback or suggestions they have.
