Speaker - Janey Lazenby 'Brush Magic' 20/09/23

Following on from Janey’s last visit to us and a request, Janey gave her new talk

‘Brush Magic’, to demonstrate the art of creating your own brushes, adding to your

own skills in the post processing of images.

Janey took us through from where to find brushes in photoshop, making your own

bespoke brushes to comply with competition rules.

A bespoke brush is whatever you make it, from Celtic crosses, buildings,

monuments, materials using seeds, leaves, grasses, twigs, wallpaper pattern,

glitter, cracked paint, flour, the list of what you can use is endless depending on

your imagination and quick to do.

Janey then gave a gallery of a wide range of images covering different genres

explaining how she had used the brushes and textures in each image.

We then had a practical demonstration from Janey on making different brushes

incorporating different techniques from your own logo to clouds, trees, birds, hair,

how to save them and how not lose all your hard work.

Janey then used these in processing images that she had taken before and

transforming them into a pleasing image.

A really useful, informative and interactive talk that Janey delivered at a pace that

everyone could understand.

The 'Oscars' - Trophy Presentation Evening

HPIC recently held its much-awaited ‘Oscars’ presentation evening, awarding prizes to winners of the club's annual competition.

More than 30 members and guests gathered at the Parish Centre, with the evening also streamed online to members both in the UK and overseas, all eagerly waiting to find out who had been successful this year.

As is tradition, we worked through each category, with all shortlisted images being displayed in turn before the winner of each was announced. Our president, Carla Lloyd, handed out the gongs, even collecting one herself this year in the Travel Print category.

In all, trophies were handed out to the winners of 16 different categories across print and digitally projected images. Additional certificates were also awarded for the highest combined score by a single author for a panel of 4 prints and the same for DPI. For the runners-up, certificates were awarded to high scoring images were deemed by our judges to be either Commended or Highly Commended.

As ever, it was a most enjoyable evening, finished off with wine, nibbles and a chance for members to socialise.

From 6 July to 12 August members of the public are invited to come along and take a look at a wide selection of images that were entered this year. Details of where to find us are shown below.

Workshop - Glenys Garnett - 14/06/23

Back in October, Glenys gave her talk ‘Get creative’ via Zoom – see an earlier page of news. We so enjoyed her thought-provoking talk that we invited her back this time in person to conduct a workshop at our club room.

Her presentation was about being creative using ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and Multiple Exposure. She explained the techniques and how she used them in her work. Glenys showed lots of examples and provide instruction on using the techniques to best effect. The emphasis was on doing as much as possible in-camera using blend modes and overlay techniques. Many members had brought their cameras so after Glenys’s introduction we spent a good half hour outside the club room and in the churchyard opposite trying out ICM and experimenting with our cameras’ multiple exposure settings in the evening light. It certainly got our creative juices flowing. Thanks again Glenys for getting us to ‘think outside of the box’ and also for referencing your own influences including the ICM ‘king’ Andrew S Gray.
